Sourdough is made from the natural occurring yeast and bacteria in flour. Traditionally, the sourdough starter consists of two ingredients; flour and water. There is no yeast, no milk, no oils and no sweeteners. It’s about as natural as you get when it comes to making bread. Find out more in our journal: What is sourdough?

As our products are all made using our signature rye sourdough starter, we do not currently produce any wheat or gluten-free products.

The following products in our range are suitable for vegans:

Please note all our products are made in a bakery that handles milk.

All of our products are suitable for vegetarians.

Palm oil production has been responsible for the destruction of vast swathes of rainforest in Indonesia and Malaysia, home to some of the world’s most endangered species. The loss of this critical habitat means that these animals have nowhere else to go and also has a direct impact on local communities who rely on the rainforest for their livelihoods.

At Peter’s Yard we never use palm oil. Instead we use 100% British cold-pressed rapeseed oil from Hillfarm which is grown and pressed in Suffolk keeping our food miles low.

Unlike palm oil, it is ultra-low in saturated fat and has the highest levels of heart-healthy Omega 3 found in all plant oils.

Packaging

We are committed to doing all we can to minimise our impact on the environment. The carboard we use is recyclable and comes from FSC certified trees. The film is now recyclable with plastic bags at larger supermarkets. We hope these services will become more widely available in the near future.
