Time at Home with Wendy, our Co Founder & Commercial Director

Making time for the things we enjoy is something we’ve always advocated – it boosts our mental wellbeing, keeps us grounded and evokes a sense of escapism.

If there’s one thing that this isolation period has taught us, it’s the importance of nurturing the rituals and routines that bring us solace – seeking the positives and making them a non-negotiable part of our days at home.

With this in mind, we wanted to share the pastimes that our team are enjoying at the moment – from crafts to crispbread, we hope our “Time at Home” series inspires you to share your isolation moments of pleasure with us. Simply tag us in your photos using #PetersYardAtHome.

Tell us, what does your newly adapted at-home routine look like?

I am thinking about the week ahead with more structure than I used to. I have always planned well ahead for work but now I like to plan meals into the diary so that we have some variety and things to look forward to, especially at the weekend.

What simple pleasures have you been appreciating lately?

I am enjoying watching wildlife continue to thrive, oblivious to everything else that is going on in the world. We are very fortunate to live in the countryside and we have seen ducklings, rabbits, birds of prey and even bees making their hive in a bird box my son made.

I also like to pick a flowers from the garden to bring a little colour into the house.

Is there a new hobby or activity that you’ve discovered during this time?

I have always loved photography and I have been capturing happy moments with my husband and son as something to look back on and remember. In addition, I have enjoyed sending videos of calm, peaceful moments from nature to share with family and friends.

What is the last thing you cooked or baked that you’re proud of?

I love cooking and try to choose a different style for each day of the week. At the weekend, the weather was glorious so I did Persian butterflied leg of lamb on the BBQ. The recipe was from Sabrina Ghayour’s ‘Feasts’. She is so talented!

Have you been listening to any podcasts or music?

There is so much free material that businesses are sharing to help people through the pandemic. One of the companies who have been doing free webinars is The Mind Gym. They specialise in psychology and behavioural science to help transform the performance of businesses and the lives of the people who work for them. The well-being of our small team is extremely important to me, so I have listened to all of their advice.

What’s the last good thing you watched?

I thoroughly enjoyed the 2020 Chelsea Flower Show reinvented for today’s times by covering gardens from previous shows. There was so much variety and inspiration.
